Just as the building cannot sustain itself without a foundation, so a culture cannot sustain itself without the wisdom of God. Every progressive culture must be rooted in a source of the wisdom that is greater than itself.
However, just because a culture was founded on godly values does not mean that the culture will remain godly for all generations. As time progresses cultures that were originally founded on the wisdom of God may 'evolve' or 'shift' into something that is completely opposed to the wisdom of God. This is because man is endowed with freedom of choice.
Whenever a shift in values happens in the foundation of a culture, belief systems become warped and distorted just the same way the walls of a building become warped and distorted when it's foundation stone is shifted. Do we all know the fate of a building whose foundation fault is neglected? We do. The house will eventually collapse, sometimes leading to fatality of those under it. In the same way, if culture shifts values from it's godly foundation it begins to shake. If that foundation is not promptly and scripturally corrected and restored, the culture will eventually collapse and the people in it will suffer.
Therefore, our hope for the future is in return to the wisdom of God in scripture upon which the foundation of our culture was laid. What better way is there to do this than to bring the wisdom of God to our children their formative years both at home and at school. It is far better to lay a good foundation than try to correct the bad one that has been laid. It is better to train a child than to rehabilitate a son or daughter. Even then, there is hope.
Since all progressive cultures are built upon the wisdom of God in scripture, the culture that will lead the future are those being built on the fear and wisdom of God today. And a culture at risk can only be corrected and restored with the wisdom of God in Scripture. Just as the foundation of a house supports the roof, and not the roof supporting the foundation, so the scripture sustains a culture and not the other way around. A culture can never correct the scripture, it is the scripture that has the power to correct and shape the culture. That is why our return to the wisdom of God upon which all good cultures are founded is the only way forward for our society.
